Ekolu Kalama
Ark Boards is proud to announce the signing of Ekolu Kalama!
Ekolu Kalama, the current World Champion of stand-up paddle board racing, has just signed on with Ark Boards as a team rider and designer! Ark Boards, a family based company in Ft. Lauderdale has been gaining a lot of popularity in Southern Florida. Now that Ekolu is aboard the Ark Team, this relatively local company is soon to be a household name throughout stand-up paddling communities world-wide.
Ekolu already has numerous racing titles but now he is in search of a stand-up paddle surfing title. Ekolu is now developing his high performance competition line of boards in preparation for the inaugural Stand-up Paddle Surfing World Tour. Ekolu has been selected as one of the 16 regulars on the 2010 tour with events in Hawaii, Tahiti, France, and California. Ekolu has also signed a clothing deal with Dunkel Volk, a Peruvian based company which is likely to benefit similarly to Ark in the fact that Ekolu will be representing them at the international level. When questioned about his recent “luck” with two sponsors in the same week (after being without a sponsor for 6 months) Ekolu replied, “I don’t believe in luck, this is not a coincidence. There are too many variables and combinations involved for this to be chance. There’s something higher at work here and if you don’t believe in God then things like this confirm that he is not only real, but that he’s always looking out for you.”
In the midst of all the madness Ekolu is also planning to release his first musical album next year. The comparison of being the next “Jack Johnson” has been motivating Ekolu to pursue both surfing and music and it seems he’s well on his way. He and his band will be touring according to his competition schedule next year but hopes to add a few other stops along the way. Whether on the water or on stage, Ekolu is sure to make a lot of noise in 2010.
